Building up equality through art

Yesterday, Inercia Digital carried out the workshop “Together We Are Art” at the Youth Centre of Punta Umbría. The main objectives of this workshop are promoting social and gender equality. The youngsters participated in three types of dynamic, collaborative and reflexive activities. Firstly, we did a theatre of prejudices and stereotypes, in which we took apart the stereotyped ideas of society through the performing specific situations by the youths. This activity led to a debate about the gypsy ethnic group and the different prejudices that this collective suffers daily.

Secondly, we created different comics about situations of gender discrimination and we had a debate about “what is gender?” and how each one understands their gender. Finally, we opened a discussion about our social fears and an important theme which is anxiety and mental health. We created the mural “Breaking up our fears”, each participant wrote a difficult situation lived by them and “destroyed” it with black painting to forget and overcome it.

All these training activities were led by Ana María Fortes, Manager of the Projects Department, Cristina Romero, Coordinator at the Training Department and Marta Fernández, trainee student at the Training Department.
