Gamification in the classroom, a learning strategy

Become your classroom in an interactive game, motivating your pupils and updating yourself in webtools 2.0

gamification

It is always recommendable, at any age range, to promote interest, curiosity and creativity among students. Traditionally, and specially for children, games have been used for this aim. Nowadays, living in the digital era and surrounded by web tools, it comes the gamification to the classroom.

Education is in ongoing evolution and updating of content and methods of teaching-learning. Gamification means creating educational videogames that place the students in a real/hypothetical situation where they must decide and choose a proper solution in every case. It is an educational option that has been working and succeeding for some years.

This educational tool aims to internalize the knowledge, but doing it through a funny perspective. It is a way for students to learn while motivated, and not as an obligation any more.

There are several websites in order to create these educational videogames, ranging from basic to expert level ones. Some examples are:

  • Classtools: templates to create simple games as well as more complicated mission ones.
  • ProProfs Brain Games: templates to create interactive puzzles, crosswords, etc.
  • PurposeGames: templates to create interactive and multi-choice quizzes.
  • Zondle: templates to create several kinds of games, from a teacher or student role.

Educational videogames can be combined in the classroom with the use of social networking. Thereby, we create a 2.0 environment where teachers are in continuous interaction with pupils, who are generally  used to ICT.

For this purpose, teachers need to be trained because, as well as education itself- they must be in ongoing updating. Teachers should know the importance that including web tools in the curriculum has. In this sense, Inercia Digital is aware of its value and that is why it offers different training courses of ICT for educators.
